Feature Classes and the Feature Tree

A Feature Class is a type of feature that is present in geographic data. Examples of Feature Classes could be Rivers, Roads or International Boundaries. Each Feature Class has a parent class, and zero or more children. This facilitates the management of features in the Feature Book by grouping like Feature Classes together under a single parent.

Creation of Feature Classes within MapLink Pro is completely automatic. If an unknown Feature Class is read when a data file is catalogued, it is added to the Feature Tree, and given default rendering properties (a thin black line). Child Feature Classes initially inherit all of their rendering properties from their parent. Within a Child Feature Class, individual rendering properties may be over-ridden to customise its visualisation.
