Rendering Properties - Overview

Rendering Properties define the visualisation of a Feature Class, i.e. how it will appear in the output map. They may be modified through the Feature Properties dialog when a Feature Class is selected.

Throughout this section, the terms None and As Parent are used to indicate special values for Rendering Properties

  • None: Rendering is disabled, e.g. Edge style of None means no edge is drawn.
  • As Parent: the primitive has adopted the rendering characteristics of its parent with regard to the selected rendering attribute.

Features in MapLink Pro come in four different flavours of primitive:

  • Lines. These are simple single-dimensional string of coordinates joined together. It has a length, but no area.
  • Polygon. This is a two-dimensional surface. It has an area, although its visualisation may be hollow.
  • Text. This is a simple text feature. Some datasources such as NTF have topographic text features encoded within them. Others such as ShapeFile store relevant text as attributes with some other kind of feature such as point. With certain datasources, MapLink Pro Studio can generate text labels for lines and polygons
  • Symbol. This is a simple point feature positioned at a defined location.

For each Feature Class, you may define Rendering Properties for each different primitive type. In addition, a Render Level may be associated for a Feature Class. This is applied to primitives in the Polygon and Polyline sub-layer. See Feature Ordering - Overview.

Use the Feature Properties dialog to define the Rendering Properties for a Feature Class.
