What is a Map?
A MapLink Pro Map groups together a set of detail layers
which share the same coordinate
space.
Typically, the Map will consist of a set of successively more
detailed layers of data, which, when loaded into a runtime application,
allows the user to pan and zoom down through from overview to detailed
view with fast load and redraw performance.
The following map properties can be defined or accessed
within MapLink Pro:
- The Output
Coordinate System. For example, a Map of the UK may utilise
the UK National Grid coordinate system. All layers in the Map use this
Coordinate System.
- Any Linear Transformation that is to be applied to the map data. This
may be, but need not be, an element of the output coordinate system
definition.
- The Layer
Loading Strategy, which defines the rules used to decide
which layer to load for any given user view.
- Raster Overview Generation,
which allows MapLink Pro Studio to automatically create less detailed
versions of detail layers in the Map which reduces memory requirements
when viewing large areas of detailed maps.
- Web Map Server Configuration,
which allows MapLink Pro Studio to automatically create configuration files for use in the MapLink Pro WMS Server, including replacement of generated legends.
- Map Metadata Configuration,
which allows MapLink Pro Studio to automatically create a ISO19139 compliant metadata file for the generated map in addition to metadata extracted from the source data files.
- Advanced. This option allows you to
control the internal Map
Unit coordinate space by defining the World Transform, which
determines the relationship between internal integer coordinate space
and the floating point coordinate space that the user sees. This
relationship is otherwise managed automatically by MapLink Pro.
